The event, scheduled for May 21 at the Putnam County Golf Course, 187 Hill St., Mahopac, benefits Emily's Entourage, an innovative foundation that fast-tracks research and treatments for Cystic Fibrosis.
“Zack was a great friend and an avid golfer and would love to see everyone coming together for a fun day of golf and fundraising for a great cause,” said friend and one of the organizer's Dan Ketterer
Bassin, a graduate of North Salem High School, and a student at Marist College could often be found on the golf course, even when he had to carry an oxygen tank, Ketterer said.
He was born with cystic fibrosis and battled medical obstacles his whole life, including a double lung transplant, post-transplant lymphoma and finally chronic rejection of his lungs.
His courage inspired his friends and everybody who heard his story, Ketterer added.
Marist College chose him as one of its "100 Inspiring Students."
The event will include a four-person scramble, lunch, contests, and an awards reception.
